Shooting For The…Grave?

It isn’t often that I think of graves, corpses and all things horror and think “Yes! That’s perfect.”  I’m not a horror junkie by any means, nor do I have fantasies of an ‘early retirement’ — if you know what I mean.

Today however, I think that we could all learn a little something from this creature from beyond.

It’s not exactly a LARP costume but that is exactly my point.  In my heart of hearts I believe that this is the kind of quality that LARP games should aim for when they create a costume or have a costume created for them.

Obviously something like this wouldn’t be safe to fight in but that just means that the design would have to altered to accommodate.  There are plenty of safe LARP costumes that look this fantastic all over the internet.  Don’t believe me?  Stay tuned and I’ll get you some more.

I once heard that there was only really 5 stories to tell and that everything else is just scenery and delivery.  If this is the case then the way to set your LARP scene apart is to start with the scenery (props and costuming), and practice the delivery.  I honestly believe that the last part (delivery) will be the hardest part.   I’ll touch upon that another day.

I hope that seeing great costumes like this inspires you to raise the bar when it comes to your game as it inspires me.

Cheers,

Kevin

PS:  A shout-out to Gore Galore.  They made this costume and specialize in haunted houses and the like.

I can’t agree more. We’ve got ourselves into a rut with tabard monsters and NPCs that don’t want to add makeup. There are a fair number of things you can do to really invoke emotion from your players, and a frightening costume like this is one of them.

    Keep up the good work!
